What Makes Spanish Hard to Transcribe

One sound, several spellings
Accents and marks the ear can miss
Fast speech, many accents, plenty of English

In Latin America, the Canary Islands and much of Andalusia, s, z and the soft c are a single sound (seseo), so casa and caza, or coser and cocer, differ only in meaning. Most speakers also pronounce ll and y alike (yeísmo), which makes calló and cayó identical, while b and v share one sound and h is silent everywhere. The spelling has to come from the sentence, which is why rare words and names deserve a quick check.

One sound, several spellings

Tú and tu, él and el, sí and si, más and mas are told apart by a written accent, and every question and exclamation opens with ¿ or ¡, sometimes halfway through a sentence: «Si no vienes, ¿qué hacemos?». The transcript places them from grammar and intonation. When you review, look at short words with and without an accent, and at where each question begins.

Accents and marks the ear can miss

Conversational Spanish is quick and runs words together: para shrinks to pa, and in much of Spain and the Caribbean cansado turns into cansao. Buenos Aires uses vos and a “sh” sound for ll and y; Mexico, Colombia and Madrid each have their own rhythm. Add English words like meeting, feedback or streaming, which usually appear in their English spelling. The model is trained on Spanish from Spain and across Latin America.

What a Clean Spanish Transcript Looks Like

Three lines from a meeting, and what to look at in each.

  1. Speaker 1

¿Ya sabes si viene él o te manda a su hermano?

The pronoun takes an accent; the article spelled the same way does not. The opening question mark is not spoken at all: it is placed from the intonation and the structure of the sentence.

  2. Speaker 2

Si no llegamos a tiempo, ¿qué hacemos con la reserva?

The question begins halfway through, so the opening question mark goes there, not at the start. Without an accent the first word means “if”; with one it means “yes”.

  3. Speaker 1

Cerramos el trimestre con un 12,5 % más de clientes.

Spain and most of South America write a decimal comma, while Mexico and several Central American countries use a point. Check figures against what your readers expect.

Auto-detection samples several stretches of speech across the file. If the video opens with an English intro, or the speakers switch between Spanish and English a lot, set Spanish yourself. One Spanish setting covers Spain and Latin America.

A six-person panel discussion, and it kept every voice straight. I stopped double-checking after the third transcript.

Yes. The model is trained on Spanish from Spain and across Latin America, so regional pronunciation, vos forms and local vocabulary are recognised. You do not choose a country: one Spanish setting covers them all. Very heavy slang or constant switching to English may need a few edits.
Usually, because the spelling is chosen from the whole sentence, not from the sound alone. Seseo, yeísmo, b and v, and the silent h are where Spanish transcripts most often slip, together with rare names, so check those first.
Yes. The transcript uses full Spanish spelling: á, é, í, ó, ú, ñ, ü and the opening ¿ and ¡. Accents that only grammar decides (tú/tu, sí/si, más/mas) and the position of ¿ in long sentences are worth a glance before you publish.
For interviews, classes, podcasts, meetings and videos, an AI transcript plus a short review in the editor covers most needs, and it is ready in minutes. There is no human proofreading, so for certified legal or court transcripts use a specialised service.
Up to 99.8% on clear audio, with Spanish punctuation, accents and capitalisation. Background noise, overlapping voices and phone-quality recordings lower it, and the editor makes the remaining fixes quick.
