Chinese Transcription: Mandarin Audio and Video to Text

In Mandarin, one syllable can stand for dozens of characters, and the tone is often the only clue in the sound. Upload a recording and get a Chinese transcript written from context, with speakers labelled and every line timestamped.

What Makes Chinese Hard to Transcribe

Tones, syllables and homophones
Simplified or Traditional, and no spaces
Mandarin, Cantonese and a lot of English

Mandarin has only around four hundred distinct syllables before tones, and each one maps to many characters. Shì can be 是, 事, 市 or 试; tā can be 他, 她 or 它, and those three sound exactly the same. Fast speech also flattens tones. The right character comes from the words around it, which is why names and rare terms deserve a second look.

Tones, syllables and homophones

Mainland China and Singapore write Simplified characters; Taiwan and Hong Kong use Traditional ones. Check which script your transcript is in, and if you need the other one, convert it with a separate tool. Chinese also has no spaces between words, so subtitle lines have to break between whole words and phrases rather than at any character.

Simplified or Traditional, and no spaces

Mandarin is the standard spoken language, and it is what most Chinese recordings use. Cantonese is a separate spoken language with its own sounds and words: it is recognised, but check a Cantonese transcript more carefully. In business and tech talk, speakers also drop English straight into a Chinese sentence: deadline, KPI, App.

What a Clean Chinese Transcript Looks Like

Three lines from a team meeting, and what each one shows.

  1. Speaker 1

    她说下周一再把方案发给我们。

He, she and it are all pronounced tā. Only the context tells you whether the speaker meant a man, a woman or a thing, so check pronouns when the subject is not obvious.

  2. Speaker 2

    这个 deadline 我们可能得往后推一周。

The English word stays in Latin letters inside the Chinese sentence, as it was said. Decide once whether your transcript keeps such terms or translates them.

  3. Speaker 1

    去年营收大约三点五亿元,用户超过两千万。

Chinese counts large numbers in units of ten thousand and a hundred million. The figure here is 350 million, so check large numbers carefully before they go into a report or an English translation.

Why Transcribe Chinese with BlaBlaScribe

Made for Chinese as it is spoken in meetings, lectures and videos.

Chinese characters, not pinyin

The transcript is written in characters with Chinese punctuation, ready to edit, quote or subtitle.

Who said what

Speakers are labelled automatically, so a meeting or a podcast reads as a dialogue, not a block of characters.

Chinese subtitles from the same file

Turn the transcript into timed subtitles, then adjust line breaks in the editor where a phrase would be split.

From Chinese to 50+ languages

Translate the transcript or subtitles, or dub the video into English and 25 other languages.

A six-person panel discussion, and it kept every voice straight. I stopped double-checking after the third transcript.

Other tools gave me a lowercase stream of words. Here sentences actually read like sentences — barely any cleanup.

No card, no tricks — I tested real files before paying and upgraded a week later because the workflow stuck.

Had trouble with a huge file — support walked me through batch upload the same morning. Rare these days.

Field interviews go in as MP3s and come out as clean DOCX with timestamps. My write-up time dropped by half.

Uploaded a two-hour recording during lunch — the transcript was waiting before I finished my coffee. The accuracy genuinely surprised me.

Our legal team approved it because processing stays on EU infrastructure. That alone ruled out most of the competition.

All questions
Upload a Chinese audio or video file up to 8 GB, or paste a link from YouTube or another site. BlaBlaScribe’s AI turns the speech into text with speaker labels and timestamps; on clear recordings, accuracy reaches up to 99.8%. Check the transcript against the audio in the editor, then export TXT, DOCX, PDF, CSV, XLSX, JSON, SRT, VTT or ASS. The first 30 minutes are free, no credit card required.
Check the result: the script follows the model, and it is not something you can switch in the settings. If you need the other script, for example Traditional characters for a Taiwanese audience, convert the finished text with a separate converter and review terms that differ between regions.
Cantonese is recognised, but it is a different spoken language from Mandarin, and written Cantonese has its own characters and conventions. Expect more edits than with Mandarin, and check a Cantonese transcript more carefully before you publish it.
Characters are chosen from the meaning of the whole sentence, not from the syllable alone, so common words usually come out right. Personal names, brand names and technical terms are where mistakes happen, because many characters share one sound.
They are written in Latin letters inside the Chinese text, as they were spoken. If the English is heavy, for example a talk that switches between the two languages, pick Chinese manually and check the switches in the editor.
Up to 99.8% on clear audio, with Chinese punctuation. Background noise, overlapping speakers, strong regional accents and phone-quality recordings lower it, and the editor shows text and audio side by side, so the remaining fixes are quick.
All common audio and video formats — MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, MOV, MKV and more — up to 8 GB per file, or a YouTube or Vimeo link. Export to SRT, VTT, ASS, TXT, DOCX, PDF, CSV, XLSX or JSON.
Yes. You get 30 free minutes once, with no credit card: short Chinese recordings are transcribed in full, long ones show the first 10 minutes.
