Korean Transcription: Korean Audio and Video to Text

Spoken Korean shortens and merges sounds that written Korean keeps apart, and the spacing between words follows rules that even native speakers argue about. Upload a recording and get a Hangul transcript with speakers labelled and every line timestamped.

What Makes Korean Hard to Transcribe

Sounds merge, spelling does not
Word spacing is part of the meaning
Speech levels, English words and two number systems

Korean pronunciation changes at the boundary between syllables: 같이 is said like 가치, 먹는 like 멍는, 좋아요 like 조아요. A transcript has to write the standard spelling, not what the ear hears, and that is where most recognition errors hide. Fast speech also contracts whole endings, so 그렇게 하면 can come out as little more than 그러면.

Sounds merge, spelling does not

Korean puts spaces between words, but the rules for 띄어쓰기 are famously flexible: 할 수 있다, 할수있다 and 할 수있다 all appear in real writing. Particles attach to the word before them, auxiliary verbs may or may not. For subtitles, spacing also decides where a line can break, so it is worth a look before you publish.

Word spacing is part of the meaning

The same request can end in 합니다, 해요 or 해, and the level tells you who is talking to whom. Business and tech Korean is full of English: 미팅, 피드백, 데드라인, sometimes said in English mid-sentence. Numbers come in native and Sino-Korean forms, so 세 시 삼십 분 is 3:30. Each of these is a choice the transcript has to make consistently.

What a Clean Korean Transcript Looks Like

Three lines from a team meeting, and what each one shows.

  1. Speaker 1

다음 주 미팅 전에 피드백 정리해서 공유해 주세요.

Both business words are English loanwords written in Hangul, the way Korean business writing usually spells them.

  2. Speaker 2

네, 그럼 금요일 세 시까지 보내 드리겠습니다.

The speaker answers in the formal style. Keep it as spoken: switching to the polite everyday style would change the relationship between the two.

  3. Speaker 1

음, 작년보다 매출이 이십 퍼센트 정도 늘었어요.

A filler, a spoken percentage and the polite everyday style in one line. Decide whether numbers go in digits before the text is published.

A six-person panel discussion, and it kept every voice straight. I stopped double-checking after the third transcript.

Our legal team approved it because processing stays on EU infrastructure. That alone ruled out most of the competition.

Frequently Asked Questions

About transcribing Korean.

All questions
Yes. Words are written in standard spelling rather than as they sound, so 같이 stays 같이 even when it is pronounced 가치. Fast or mumbled speech is where mistakes are most likely, so read those passages against the audio.
The transcript follows common spacing for particles and endings, but Korean spacing has many acceptable variants, especially with auxiliary verbs and nouns like 수 and 것. If you publish to a house style, check spacing in the editor before export.
Loanwords that Korean writes in Hangul, such as 미팅 or 컴퓨터, usually appear in Hangul. Brand names and phrases said in English may appear in Latin letters. Pick one style for your text and adjust the exceptions in the editor.
Up to 99.8% on clear audio. Background music, overlapping speakers and phone-quality recordings lower it, and the editor shows text and audio side by side, so the remaining fixes are quick.
Yes. Create Korean subtitles from the same file, then translate them into English or 50+ other languages with the timing kept. You can also dub the video into English with an AI voice.
