What you actually pay per hour
Both tools sell monthly minute allowances, so the fair comparison is price per hour of audio at the same volume. At 600 minutes a month, BlaBlaScribe Creator costs $1.40 per hour on monthly billing ($1.10 billed yearly). HappyScribe Pro, its 600-minute plan, works out to $2.90 per hour ($1.90 billed yearly).
The gap is widest at the entry level. HappyScribe Basic is $17 a month for 120 minutes, roughly $8.50 per hour, and caps files at 90 minutes. BlaBlaScribe’s cheapest paid plan already includes 600 minutes and accepts files up to five hours.
At high volume the two converge: 8,000 minutes on BlaBlaScribe Business ($99/mo) and 6,000 minutes on HappyScribe Business ($89/mo) cost about the same per minute, especially on yearly billing.
Free plans
HappyScribe’s free tier is a 10-minute trial with a 45-minute file limit — enough to judge accuracy on one short clip. BlaBlaScribe gives 90 minutes when you sign up and then 30 fresh minutes every month, with speaker labels and SRT/TXT export, so a monthly podcast episode or a couple of interviews stay free indefinitely.
Languages and translation
HappyScribe lists 150+ transcription languages and AI translation into 80+, both available from its Basic plan. BlaBlaScribe transcribes 120+ languages and translates into 50+. Translation keeps timestamps and speaker labels, so a translated transcript exports straight to subtitles.
If your language is on both lists — which covers every major European and Asian language — this row won’t decide it. If it’s a smaller language, check HappyScribe’s list first.
Exports and editing workflow
For video editors HappyScribe is ahead: on Pro and Business it exports to Premiere, Final Cut, Avid, EDL and other professional formats. On Free and Basic, though, it exports only TXT and SRT.
BlaBlaScribe exports SRT and TXT on the free plan and eight formats — SRT, VTT, TXT, DOCX, PDF, CSV, XLSX and JSON — from its $14 Creator plan. That covers web captions, documents, spreadsheets and developer workflows, but not NLE timelines.
Privacy
Both keep data in the EU: BlaBlaScribe on its own servers in Germany, HappyScribe in an EU data center. HappyScribe uses customer content for machine-learning training only if you opt in. BlaBlaScribe does not use your audio or transcripts to train AI models at all, and files are deleted automatically when your plan’s storage period ends.
