Different jobs, different tools

Otter is built around the meeting. Its assistant joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet, records, transcribes live and sends a summary afterwards. Importing a file you recorded elsewhere is a secondary path, and it’s rationed: three imports for the life of a free account, ten a month on Pro.

BlaBlaScribe is built around the file. You upload audio or video, or paste a YouTube or cloud link, and get a speaker-labelled transcript you can edit, translate, summarise and export as subtitles. There is no meeting bot — if your work happens live in Zoom, that matters.

Languages and translation

Otter transcribes six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Simplified Chinese, one language per conversation. There is no dedicated translation feature; Otter’s help centre suggests asking Otter Chat to translate.

BlaBlaScribe transcribes 120+ languages and translates into 50+, keeping timestamps and speaker labels so the translation exports straight to SRT or VTT subtitles. For a podcast in Polish or an interview in Turkish, Otter simply isn’t an option.

Pricing in practice

On paper Otter Pro is cheaper: 1,200 minutes for $16.99 a month, or $8.33 billed yearly, against 600 minutes for $14 ($11 yearly) on BlaBlaScribe Creator. But the minutes behave differently. Otter caps each conversation at 90 minutes on Pro and imports at ten files a month, so a weekly two-hour podcast doesn’t fit. BlaBlaScribe counts only minutes: any number of files, up to five hours each.

Privacy and AI training

Otter’s privacy page says it de-identifies user data before training its models — so recordings do feed training, without personal identifiers. BlaBlaScribe never uses your audio or transcripts to train AI models, and stores everything on its own servers in Germany under the GDPR.

Where Otter is the better choice

If you want notes from live English meetings with zero effort — a bot that joins every call, action items in Slack, deals updated in Salesforce or HubSpot — Otter does that and BlaBlaScribe doesn’t. Use BlaBlaScribe for the recordings that happen outside the meeting room.

Questions, answered

What people ask before choosing between BlaBlaScribe and Otter.ai.

All questions
For recorded files, yes: you upload audio or video, or paste a link, and get a transcript and subtitles in 120+ languages. It doesn’t replace Otter’s live meeting bot — BlaBlaScribe has no assistant that joins Zoom, Teams or Meet.
Six: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Simplified Chinese, according to Otter’s help centre. BlaBlaScribe supports 120+ for transcription and 50+ for translation.
Three imported files for the lifetime of a Basic account, with a 30-minute limit per conversation. Pro allows ten imports a month. BlaBlaScribe has no import cap — only your monthly minutes count.
Otter’s privacy page says it de-identifies user data before training its models. BlaBlaScribe does not use customer audio or transcripts for AI training.
Otter Pro includes more minutes for the money (1,200 for $16.99/mo), but limits conversations to 90 minutes and imports to 10 a month. If you transcribe long recordings or many files, BlaBlaScribe’s 600 minutes for $14/mo usually go further.
