Frequently Asked Questions

SRT, VTT and subtitle formats, explained.

All questions
SRT (SubRip) is the older, universally supported format; VTT (WebVTT) is the web standard required by HTML5 video players and supports styling and positioning. Timestamps differ slightly — commas in SRT, dots in VTT.
The HTML5 <track> element and most web players (Video.js, JW Player, Plyr) only accept WebVTT. If your captions came as SRT, converting to VTT is the one step between you and working web captions.
Yes — the tool works in both directions. Editors and platforms that prefer SRT get a clean, valid file.
It strips all timestamps and numbering, leaving just the dialogue — handy for scripts, translation quotes and content review.
No — the conversion runs entirely in your browser. Instant, private, offline-friendly.
