The Best AI Transcription Software in 2026

No transcription tool wins at everything, so start from what you are transcribing. For recorded files in many languages, where you will also want subtitles or a translation, BlaBlaScribe is the strongest all-rounder: 120+ languages, 30 free minutes, and 600 minutes for $14 a month. Live meetings in English are Otter.ai’s home ground. If you are one person with hours of audio every week, TurboScribe’s flat rate is the cheapest option around. Pick Descript if you edit podcasts and video by editing the text, and Rev if you need a person to check an English transcript.

BlaBlaScribe is our own product. Every other tool here was judged on its own pricing and feature pages as of October 2026, and for each one we say where something else fits better.

How we compared them

  • The free plan as it really is. A 10-minute trial and 300 minutes a month are not the same thing, so we list what the free tier actually gives you.

  • Price at a realistic volume. Monthly and yearly prices, and what the cheapest paid plan includes.

  • Languages. How many it can transcribe, and whether translation is included or costs extra.

  • What you can export. Speaker labels, timestamps, subtitle files (SRT, VTT) and documents.

  • Where your audio goes. Where files are processed and whether they end up training someone’s AI.

The 9 best AI transcription tools

1. BlaBlaScribe: recorded files in many languages

Upload audio or video, or paste a YouTube link, and BlaBlaScribe returns a transcript with speaker labels in 120+ languages; on clear audio, accuracy goes up to 99.8%. From the same editor you can make subtitles, translate them into 50+ languages without losing the timing, write summaries and burn styled captions into an MP4. Files can be up to 8 GB. They are processed on servers in Germany and never used to train AI.

  • Free: 30 minutes, once, no card and no expiry date. Short files come back in full; for longer ones you see the first 10 minutes.

  • Paid: Creator is $14/mo for 600 minutes ($11 billed yearly), Pro $43 for 2,000, Business $99 for 8,000 with team workspaces. Extra minutes from $5 per 100.

  • Exports: TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT, VTT, CSV, XLSX, JSON, and MP4 with burned-in subtitles.

Look elsewhere if you need a bot that sits in live meetings (Otter, Notta) or a human proofreader (Rev, Happy Scribe).

2. TurboScribe: a flat rate for one person

TurboScribe has a single paid plan: unlimited transcription for one user at $20 a month, or $10 a month billed yearly. Files can run up to 10 hours and 5 GB. The free tier gives you three files a day, each up to 30 minutes.

It gets awkward when several people need to share one account, or when you need to style and edit subtitles rather than just get the text. Our BlaBlaScribe vs TurboScribe comparison goes into that.

3. Otter.ai: live meetings in English

Otter joins your Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet call, transcribes while people talk and sends a summary afterwards. Paid plans sync with your CRM. It works in English and five other languages.

For uploaded files it’s a poor fit: the free plan allows three imports in total, and Pro allows ten a month. Here are some Otter.ai alternatives.

4. Descript: editing podcasts and video by text

Descript is an editor that works from the transcript. Delete a word in the text and it disappears from the recording. On top of that come AI voices, captions in 61 languages and dubbing.

If all you want is the text, it’s more than you need: transcription covers 25 languages, and every imported minute eats into your media quota.

5. Rev: English checked by people

Rev sells AI transcription alongside human services: English transcripts typed by people at $1.99 a minute, legal transcripts and broadcast caption formats. The free plan includes 45 minutes a month, English only.

Audio in other languages mostly needs the $59.99 Pro plan.

6. Happy Scribe: proofread transcripts and subtitles

Happy Scribe, based in Dublin, has been doing transcription and subtitling for years. It covers 150+ languages, keeps data in an EU data centre and offers human proofreading from $2 a minute. Pro plans export to Premiere, Final Cut and Avid.

There is no free plan, only a 10-minute trial, and the Basic plan comes with 120 minutes, which is not a lot of minutes per dollar.

7. Sonix: pay as you go

Sonix charges $10 per hour of audio. Translation into 54+ languages comes out of the same hours, and exports are ready for video editors. It suits one-off projects better than a steady monthly load.

8. Notta: meetings in two languages

Notta has a meeting bot for Zoom, Meet, Teams and Webex and copes with calls that switch between two languages. On the free plan every recording stops at three minutes.

9. Whisper: free, on your own computer

Whisper is OpenAI’s open-source speech recognition model, free to use. Run it on your own machine and the audio never leaves it. You pay in setup time instead, and you get no speaker labels out of the box and no editor. We put it up against paid tools in Whisper vs paid transcription tools.

Transcribing podcasts: what 50 hours costs

A podcast back catalogue is where the pricing models really split. Fifty one-hour episodes come to 3,000 minutes.

  • TurboScribe: $20 for one month of the unlimited plan, as long as one person does all the work.

  • BlaBlaScribe: $93 (Pro’s 2,000 minutes plus ten 100-minute packs), or $99 on Business. Speaker labels, subtitles and summaries for show notes are included.

  • Sonix: around $500, at $10 an hour.

Free AI transcription: what to expect

No two free tiers look alike. Otter and Notta give you minutes per month, TurboScribe files per day, BlaBlaScribe a one-off allowance, and Happy Scribe and Sonix a short trial. Before you commit, put one of your own recordings through two or three of them and see how each handles names, numbers and changes of speaker. The exact limits are in the best free AI transcription tools and their real limits.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most accurate AI transcription software?

On clear audio the leading tools all land in the high nineties, so what decides accuracy is your recording: background noise, people talking over each other, accents, how far away the mic is. BlaBlaScribe reaches up to 99.8% on clear audio. If accuracy has to be verified, pay for a human service like Rev. What moves the numbers is explained in why AI transcription accuracy varies.

Is there completely free AI transcription software?

Whisper, if you run it yourself. Online, free tiers go from 30 minutes once (BlaBlaScribe) to three files a day (TurboScribe) and 300 meeting minutes a month (Otter).

Which transcription tool supports the most languages?

Happy Scribe lists 150+ and BlaBlaScribe 120+. Otter supports six, so check that yours is on the list before you pay.

Can AI transcription tools make subtitles?

Most of them export SRT or VTT. BlaBlaScribe, Happy Scribe and Descript also let you adjust subtitle timing and style, and BlaBlaScribe can burn captions into an MP4. More in the best AI subtitle generators.
