English → Italian · timing preserved: Translate Subtitles from English to Italian

Italian sentences run longer than their English originals, so the hard part is fitting them into the same on-screen time. Upload an SRT, VTT or video and get Italian captions that keep every cue exactly where it was.

What Changes When English Becomes Italian

Three things worth knowing before you ship Italian captions.

Italian text expands, subtitle space does not
Lei or tu decides the tone of the whole film
Numbers and punctuation follow Italian conventions

The same sentence typically grows by 15–20% moving from English to Italian: articles combine with prepositions, verb endings carry information English packs into short auxiliaries. A line that filled 40 characters in English lands well past the usual 42-character limit. Translation that respects subtitles has to compress — dropping a redundant subject pronoun, choosing a shorter synonym — rather than pushing text onto a third line.

Italian text expands, subtitle space does not

Italian forces a choice English never makes: formal Lei or informal tu. Corporate training, documentaries and interviews with strangers normally take Lei; vlogs, fiction between friends and marketing aimed at a young audience take tu. The trap is mixing them halfway through a video, which reads as a translation error to any native speaker.

Lei or tu decides the tone of the whole film

Decimal commas instead of points, day-first dates, guillemets or quotation marks depending on house style, and spacing rules that differ from English. Getting these wrong rarely breaks comprehension, but it marks the subtitles as machine output — the exact impression captions on a published video should avoid.

Numbers and punctuation follow Italian conventions

One English cue, translated into Italian

Italian grows by a few characters per line, and the register has to be chosen.

  1. 00:00:04,200 → 00:00:07,000

English: Check your settings before you start.

Italian: Controlla le impostazioni prima di iniziare.

  2. 00:00:07,400 → 00:00:09,300

English: Can you send me the file?

    Italian: Puoi mandarmi il file?

The first line grows from 37 to 44 characters and still fits one row. The second uses informal tu; in a corporate video it would read “Può mandarmi il file?” with Lei.

English → Italian, Done Right

Italian runs longer than English; the timing does not move.

Compression, not overflow

Lines are shortened where Italian runs long, so captions stay inside two readable lines instead of spilling over.

Consistent register

Lei and tu stay consistent across the whole file rather than drifting between scenes.

Cues keep their English timing

Every Italian line inherits the start and end time of its English cue, so longer sentences are shortened, never re-timed.

Side-by-side review for Italian

Each Italian line sits next to its English source, so a compressed phrase or a Lei/tu choice is checked in seconds.

One source SRT became six market-ready files with timing untouched. Our agency quoted two weeks for the same job.

Uploaded a two-hour recording during lunch — the transcript was waiting before I finished my coffee. The accuracy genuinely surprised me.

Our legal team approved it because processing stays on EU infrastructure. That alone ruled out most of the competition.

About translating subtitles from English into Italian.

Upload your English SRT or VTT file, or the video itself, and choose Italian as the target language. BlaBlaScribe translates every line with AI and keeps the original timestamps, so the Italian subtitles stay in sync with the speech. Fix the wording in the editor, then download SRT or VTT or export an MP4 with the subtitles burned in. Translation is available on paid plans from $14 a month.
That is the main thing to check. Italian typically expands 15–20% over English, so lines are translated with the character limit in mind and shortened where they would otherwise run past two lines. You can review and trim any line before export.
You can adjust it. The translation picks a register from context and keeps it consistent, and every line is editable side by side with the English original before you export.
Yes. Files are written in UTF-8, so à, è, ì, ò, ù and apostrophes survive in both SRT and VTT.
Common streaming guidelines allow about 42 characters per line and two lines per cue. Italian reaches that limit sooner than English, so long sentences are rephrased to fit rather than split across a third line.
Yes. Pick a caption style and export an MP4 with the Italian subtitles burned in; it renders in your browser. Check that accented vowels such as à and è look right in the preview before you export the whole video.
