English → Dutch · timing preserved: Translate Subtitles from English to Dutch

Dutch compounds words that English keeps apart, which produces long strings that break subtitle lines in awkward places. Upload an SRT, VTT or video and get Dutch captions that keep the original cue timing.

What Changes When English Becomes Dutch

Three things worth knowing before you ship Dutch captions.

Compounds create words a line cannot break
u or je changes who the video is talking to
Dutch keeps some English words and translates others

Dutch writes as one word what English separates: ondertitelingssoftware, klantenservicemedewerker. A single term can eat half a subtitle line, and unlike English there is no natural space to wrap on. Translations that ignore this produce lines that either overflow or wrap mid-word, which is visibly wrong to a Dutch reader.

Compounds create words a line cannot break

Formal u and informal je are not interchangeable. Corporate and government content, and anything addressing customers, generally takes u; YouTube, internal team videos and content aimed at a younger audience take je. Switching between them inside one video reads as carelessness.

u or je changes who the video is talking to

Terms like computer, manager and download stay English in everyday Dutch, while others have established Dutch equivalents that a viewer expects to see. Translating everything mechanically produces stiff, over-formal captions; leaving everything in English produces the opposite problem.

Dutch keeps some English words and translates others

One English cue, translated into Dutch

Two short English phrases become single Dutch compounds.

  1. 00:00:02,100 → 00:00:04,600

English: The customer service team will call you back.

Dutch: Het klantenserviceteam belt je terug.

  2. 00:00:05,000 → 00:00:06,900

English: Download the subtitle file first.

    Dutch: Download eerst het ondertitelbestand.

“Customer service team” and “subtitle file” each become one word, so the line can only break before or after them. “Download” stays English, as it does in everyday Dutch.

English → Dutch, Done Right

Long Dutch words, short subtitle lines, the same timing.

Compounds handled sensibly

Long Dutch compounds are placed so lines break between words, not inside them.

One consistent register

u or je is chosen once from context and held across the file.

Cues keep their English timing

Dutch lines take over the start and end time of each English cue, so nothing needs re-syncing after translation.

Loanwords checked line by line

Each Dutch line sits next to its English original, so you can decide quickly where “download” stays English and where a Dutch word reads better.

One source SRT became six market-ready files with timing untouched. Our agency quoted two weeks for the same job.

Uploaded a two-hour recording during lunch — the transcript was waiting before I finished my coffee. The accuracy genuinely surprised me.

TV
Tomas V.Operations Manager

Our legal team approved it because processing stays on EU infrastructure. That alone ruled out most of the competition.

Seeing source and translation together makes QA fast. We ship subtitles the same day we cut the video.

No card, no tricks — I tested real files before paying and upgraded a week later because the workflow stuck.

Had trouble with a huge file — support walked me through batch upload the same morning. Rare these days.

Frequently Asked Questions

About translating subtitles from English into Dutch.

Upload your English SRT or VTT file, or the video itself, and choose Dutch as the target language. BlaBlaScribe translates every line with AI and keeps the original timestamps, so the Dutch subtitles stay in sync with the speech. Fix the wording in the editor, then download SRT or VTT or export an MP4 with the subtitles burned in. Translation is available on paid plans from $14 a month.
Compounds are kept intact and lines are arranged so the break falls between words. Where a compound would push a line past the readable limit, the sentence is rephrased rather than wrapped mid-word.
Yes. Register is inferred from the content and kept consistent, and you can change any line before export if your style guide differs.
The translation targets standard Dutch, which is understood throughout Flanders. Vocabulary specific to Belgium can be adjusted line by line in the editor before you export.
Most guidelines allow about 42 characters per line and two lines per cue. Dutch usually fits, but a single compound can take half a line, so sentences are arranged around long words instead of breaking them.
Yes. Pick a caption style and export an MP4 with the Dutch subtitles burned in; it renders in your browser. Watch the preview for long compounds at the end of a line, where burned-in text cannot reflow.
